How’s it looking for you so far?
Are you leaping into 2024 with pep in your step, feeling ready to take on the world? Are you exhausted, ready for a proper holiday and dreading the return to work?
Or are you a bit like me? Somewhere in the middle. A bit weary and over-indulged but also feeling like it’s time to make some changes. Perhaps even looking forward to some bright new beginnings?
For lots of people, the start of a new year can bring with it a real sense of possibility. January is, after all, that time in the year when we often find ourselves reflecting on the past, thinking about the future, and possibly even setting some resolutions that we hope will bring about positive change.
For others, January can cause us to reflect on what hasn’t changed. What’s holding us where we are and causing us to feel stagnated and desperate for change? What can we do about it? Maybe we’re feeling disheartened about setting resolutions for change. They didn’t happen last year so what’s the point of trying again this year? It can feel like an overwhelming time, especially if we’re thinking about doing more in the service of change when we don’t feel very well equipped to do so.
I found this great quote from the writer Ellen Goodman and it got me thinking about how we approach the idea of change at this time of year. What lens are you looking through as you consider who and how you want to be in 2024?
“We spend January 1st walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives ... not looking for flaws but for potential.”
So how can we proceed, not looking for flaws but for potential?
Throughout the month of January, I'll be sharing a series of blogs about New Year's resolutions with you and supporting you to commit to actions that are aligned with who you are and what really matters to you.
It won't be about joining boot camps (unless that matters to you!), or creating rigid goals and high expectations. It'll be about setting realistic and sustainable actions to help you to move towards a life that feels authentic and fulfilling. Sounds good, right?
So together, let's dive into this month-long exploration of resolutions. Check my blog posts throughout January as I share insights, tips and reflections that will guide you through the process of creating change.
Here's to a New Year filled with self-discovery and growth. Let's make 2024 your most authentic and fulfilling year yet!
